Usability Engineering Certificate

The Usability Engineering Certificate provides the knowledge and skills important to create usable and effective systems and products. Your will benefit with clear understanding of how usability is integrated and how usability enhances all end-user products. Through the Usability Engineering Series, you learn to apply tools and techniques that will produce user-centered and task-oriented systems.

Certificate Objectives
This certificate will prepare you with the many tools and skills needed for the successful design and implementation of usability, accessibility, and visualization for interactive systems.

Learn to:

  Make a case for the importance of HCI in system development
  Describe the goals of user interface design and evaluation
  Apply an integrated perspective to the usability design process
  Construct an evaluation plan
Apply a practical set of methods for assessing the usability of designs
Make the case for accessibility as a normal extension of usability
Be able to decide how far to go with accessibility and choose the proper guidelines
Construct a Web site using the Section 508 standards or W3C WCAG guidelines
Make the case for integration of accessibility, usability and aesthetic design
Develop an understanding of the concepts of visualization and interaction
Identify effective visualization tools for particular applications
Explain how the principles of Universal Design can eliminate barriers and improve usability

Career Focus
The Usability Engineering Certificate provides valuable training for all professional system developers who desire to create more effective, usable, and productive technologies. Students beginning this certificate do not need any prior experience with usability practices. Experience with the designing and developing current interactive and end-user software and web systems will be beneficial. Completion of this certificate of instruction will provide the student with the skills needed for an entry-level position in designing, implementing, and evaluating systems for their usability, accessibility, and visualization.

This certificate requires the successful completion of four core courses listed below.
